Our Story: The Next Steps
I got to catch up with a friend over a delicious, tasty drink yesterday and tried to put the past couple months, really the last several years, into perspective. To be honest, it’s been a time when everything and nothing has happened. A time of personal stretching, hurting, realignment, growth, and most of all grace. And through all of this my wife and I can look back and say that it has been a time of preparation for what God is calling us to next, and despite our constant longing for change to happen in our own time, God has proved himself faithful time and time again, and has now led us to our next steps…
There is a lot to the story, and I may write about it another time. But one of the themes was feeling like I was not living out my calling to it’s full potential. I felt like I had a decent grasp on who God was calling me to be but felt that I lacked the opportunities to truly live that out.
During this time, a friend recommended that I check out an org doing great things called Global Support Mission, based out of Nashville, TN. Global Support Mission (GSM) exists to see a movement of compassion wipe out hunger, disease and extreme poverty. GSM trains, equips, and resources leaders in developing nations who are working to end extreme poverty in their own communities. After throughly checking out the website, I started to grow more and more excited about what it is that they were doing and how they were going about making a global impact.
Out of the blue, I sent an email to the founder, which led to conversations, which led to interviews. As a result, I have been invited to join the team at Global Support Mission as the Community Growth Coordinator. My role will be to partner with the faith community – churches, youth groups, schools, universities, bands, etc – and provide them with opportunities to meet real tangible needs through a dynamic program called Know.Think.Act. I am honored and excited to join the team, but more than that, I am humbled by how God’s constant love and presence has guided us to this point.
One of our favorite aspects of the Know.Think.Act program is that 100% of donations to a particular program go directly to that program. In order to cover operational costs, GSM has two funding streams, the first, an amazing direct trade store featuring 100% handmade products called Red Earth Trading Company. You really need to check out that store and it’s mission, it is amazing. The second funding stream is through Legacy Partners. Legacy Partners are individuals, churches, and businesses that give to the organization in order to maintain the 100% model. In order to maintain the mission of the organization, I, along with the other GSM staff, will raise my salary as I join the team.
This means that we going to need a lot of support in the next few months. We’re going to need prayer support, we’re going to need emotional support, and we’re going to need financial support.
First and foremost, Allison and I need your prayers. As we prepare to move to Nashville, we would love to know that you are in our corner, praying for us, for transitions, for Allison and her new job search, for community, and for us to continue to be faithful with what God has called us to. Secondly, Allison and I will need encouragement and breaks for fun as we enter a season of planning and intentionality. Lastly, I would love for you to support me and Global Support Mission by becoming a Legacy Partner. I would love to talk to you all about what it means to be a Legacy Partner, more about the organization, about my role, and answer any questions you may have about supporting Global Support Mission and myself.
We can’t make this transition without you. We are excited and humbled and anxious about all that goes into big transitions, raising support and new life directions. We know that God is faithful, that He has been preparing us for this, and that He will always provide.
Thank you so very much for being a part of our lives, for taking the time to read this, and for praying about potentially partnering with us and Global Support Mission as we seek to be light in dark places, one step at a time. Thank you.
